For homeschoolers, the amount required depends on factors such as state homeschooling laws and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/umbrella-school\/\" rel=\"noopener\">umbrella school<\/a><\/strong> requirements. Often, homeschooling parents set their own graduation requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming a student takes six classes each semester, 20-24 credit hours is a good guide. During all four years of high school, English credit usually includes literature and composition. It may also include grammar, vocabulary, speech, and writing research papers. We like to incorporate literature with history. We&rsquo;ll read American literature while studying U.S. history or British and world literature with world history.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;ve yet to find an all-encompassing curriculum that covers all of the subjects typically associated with English credit. Following are some of my favorite options for piecing the course together:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a title=\"affiliate link\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2GJE77m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Apologia&rsquo;s American Literature<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"affiliate link\" href=\"https:\/\/writeshop.com\/?ref=hiphomeschoolmoms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">WriteShop<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfbooks.com\/Literature-Packs\/9-12th-Studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Beautiful Feet<\/strong><\/a> (This is a good option for those who want to combine literature and history)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hewitthomeschooling.com\/Senior\/sLightning.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lightning Literature<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.commonsensepress.com\/store\/c18\/Wordsmith.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Wordsmith<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/affiliates.compassclassroom.com\/idevaffiliate.php?id=280_8_3_15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Word Up! Vocabulary<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check with your local Toast Masters club for speech. Most of the time, the courses include Algebra I and II and geometry. Pre-Algebra can work for a student who struggles. Those credits usually include two years of the same foreign language. Beyond that, you can assign <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/homeschooling-high-school-electives\/\" rel=\"noopener\">elective credit<\/a><\/strong> to nearly any interest that your teen would like to explore.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to local classes and interest-led studies such as photography or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/7-resources-for-learning-how-to-code\/\" rel=\"noopener\">computer coding<\/a><\/strong>, some of the electives my kids have really enjoyed include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/review-dave-ramseys-foundations-in\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Dave Ramsey&rsquo;s Foundations in Personal Finance<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/flip-flop-spanish-review\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Flip Flop Spanish<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/typesy-typing-lessons-for-kids\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Typesy<\/a><\/strong> Typing Lessons<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Homeschool Health and P.E.<\/h2>\n<p>Finally, you&rsquo;ll want to include at least one credit for P.E. and a half credit for health. For P.E., I just followed my teens&rsquo; interests. They enjoyed activities such as hiking, gymnastics, volleyball, and weightlifting. If you&rsquo;re stumped for P.E. and your teen isn&rsquo;t into sports, check with your local Y.M.C.A. Often, they offer homeschooling classes.<\/p>\n<p>For health, I hands-down recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/homeschool-health-curriculum\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Apologia&rsquo;s Health and Nutrition<\/strong><\/a>. Megan loved it!
