There are limitless ideas for hands-on activities for preschool and elementary-aged students. Unfortunately, as kids get older, the ideas for hands-on projects seem to dwindle in favor of more traditional textbook-style learning.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, teens learn just as much from hands-on activities as young kids do, and almost anything can be educational: <\/span><b>acting in a play<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>running a lawn-care business<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>creating pieces of art<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>cooking, baking<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and even <\/span><b>babysitting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! But <\/span><b>activities for younger kids are beneficial to older students with some modifications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To make hands-on activities more challenging for older students:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turn all the planning and execution of the project over to the student.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Require more detail. (Simplified example: a young student might label only the basic parts of a flower such as stem, petal, and leaves, while an older student would be expected to include anthers, stamen, ovaries, etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use more complex materials. (For example: a younger student might <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.weirdunsocializedhomeschoolers.com\/step-by-step-how-to-make-rain-stick\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>make a cardboard rainstick<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while an older student would use bamboo and nails.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask your teens to explain what they did, how they did it, why it works, and what it represents. (Younger kids should be able to do this, too, but older kids should be more detailed in their narrative.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I hope you find this list helpful!
